no, by slight British accent I mean heavy yet intelligible roaring growl gibberish and a slight British accent. and though it was not Cockney, Scouse or Geordie either, it was totally British by all means. ;)

Just in the middle of watching the flashback videos, and I must say, it is quite a spiffing game from the looks of things.  I like the design of everything, and it looks like it'd play quite well.  Then again, i think thats just Helm.

Hello. I did a video longplay of Flashback. Watch here if you desire. There isn't much talk about pixel art, as this isn't directed at us, but everyone. I hope it's halfway entertaining. Bear with the hilariously bad-idea captions on top in the first video, I come to my senses by the second one.

http://www.vimeo.com/user470672/videos
It's called a "Let's Play" ;)
You guys should check out the LP section at the something awful forums if you wanna watch some other games being played too.
The Metroid Prime Megathread is pretty cool, he knows the games and a lot of the tricks well.

LP can be a 'Let's Play' but since I haven't made a thread in SA for it or anything, I am using the term 'Longplay' since essentially that's what it is. I am not having any audience participation or anything, I am playing through the game, showing all it has to show, that's a longplay too, right? Search youtube for 'longplay' for more of this.

Anyway, thanks, I hope you liked. I wasn't going to do a voiceover version because I have a heavy accent that would distract quite a bit, I think.

You should hear some of the accents on SA, most of the time it's the main reason they're popular :P

i had it for dos and i must say i think there were a number of things added in the genesis port, i don't remember for example nearly so many cutscenes.  I also think i had trouble with that jump right inside the second part >.< (though obviously moved past it..)

I only watched the first video for now, but I'm surprised at both how much I don't remember and how much subtle detail in this game I didn't get.  I know I had to resort to a walkthrough several times in the game.

But I blame the rest of the game industry for my ineptitude, for not preparing me to expect such attention to detail!  Seriously, I can't remember the last game I played with genuinely creative and designed puzzles.  In most games with flaunted puzzle elements I rarely think about what I'm doing.  The Zelda games are good example--I hardly ever have to stop and think about how to get a door open, I just do what I was trained to do, that is, place a rock on a button tile, light this torch, shoot this eyeball thing.  I often "solve" a puzzle without realizing I'm supposed to be solving one, or without any thought about where I am trying to go or what I am trying to do.  It's not that the puzzles are too easy.  I'd accept that--it is supposed to be a widely accessible game.  But it's like they're not even there.

Darien; if you like challenging puzzle games then maybe you should try the Professor Layton or Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban games? They have great puzzle solving, where you actually have to stop and think to go on.

I'd like to see this generation's of gamers tackle the Cryo adventure game, KGB.

You're used to your adventure games patronising you, insulting your intelligence. KGB does the exact opposite. You're supposed to be a russian undercover agent, you better think like one, or it's constant game over, yet it's never idiotic or counter-intuitive. Do try it.

I had tried that a while ago when I was getting into adventure games!  I remember I was enjoying it, but I stopped early on for some reason that I can't remember.  I should try it again.

New Futurama movie is out :y:

edit-
Overall, a similar experience to Benders Big Score, the movie is still paced so it can cleanly be cut up into episodes- which I still don't think is that big a deal for a straight to dvd 'movie'
Pretty much every joke hits the mark, no real swing and misses.

Also, it's really neat to see the cool little products they come up with for the show, it would be a fun job just coming up with those ideas for futurama

yeah, going outside, especially somewhere you've never been, is more mind-expanding than a thousand webpages or books.  just ask Wordsworth and Thoreau.

"The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are."

Of course some people may travel and NOT see anything, depending on their mind set. Or only see bad things, or in a negative way, or in terms of comparing how inferior everything is compared to how awesome things are back home.

the funny thing is that Wordsworth, known for his loving of nature and sentimental ventures at autumn lakes of the Lake District, caught cold and died of pneumonia.

Quote from: William Wordsworth: "Tintern Abbey" (1798)
For I have learned
To look on nature, not as in the hour
Of thoughtless youth; but hearing oftentimes
The still, sad music of humanity,
Nor harsh nor grating, though of ample power
To chasten and subdue. And I have felt
A presence that disturbs me with the joy
Of elevated thoughts; a sense sublime
Of something far more deeply interfused,
Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns,
And the round ocean and the living air,
      And the blue sky, and in the mind of man;
A motion and a spirit, that impels
All thinking things, all objects of all thought,
And rolls through all things. Therefore am I still
A lover of the meadows and the woods,
And mountains; and of all that we behold
From this green earth; of all the mighty world
Of eye, and ear,--both what they half create,
And what perceive; well pleased to recognise
In nature and the language of the sense,
The anchor of my purest thoughts, the nurse,
The guide, the guardian of my heart, and soul
      Of all my moral being.

I respect them far more than i should, if only because I believe all sports should be as extreme as this (says the avid tennis/soccer watcher).  It's pretty much one of the cooler things i've ever seen, while also being the most painful.

ok, so maybe the pain isn't funny, but the way it came about.  also, i didn't notice 'till the second watch that they both hit those posts, which I don't think are "breakaway"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISsLEU4Cld0&feature=related - most intense one i found.

also, compeltely off-topic, desperation cooking saved the day last week!  i was going to take a girl out to dinner but she just wanted to come over and spend some time together, i agreed (doh) and shed be over in half an hour.  this has happened before, but this is the first time the food was any good, and it was literally everything i had in my fridge (all raw) :

2 eggs, 1 potato, 1/4th lb sirloin, 3 big carrots, a third of an onion, salt, olive oil, grapes.

in a saucepan, put the eggs and the potato in underwater and set to boil.
chop the meat into small chunks and with the carrots and onions also chopped put in a small saucepan with a little olive oil, just enough to not burn.  sprinkle a bit of salt over all of it and cover on medium heat.  reduce heat slightly when meat is fully brown.
by now the water should boil, let it go for a full minute, then turn heat off and cover 12 minutes.
remove eggs from water and place in ice water.  chop potato into small slices, then half and half again.  add to meat+carrots.  cook a few minutes on high heat to make sure the potatos are cooked.
chop eggs, salt lightly, and add to pot.  put heat to low and cover.  put grapes on side of plate, light candles, pour drinks, set table...plate food, answer door.
it's not the best thing i've ever cooked but i thought i'd share because it was quick, good, and even though it fed two people it cost as much as one person ordering a macdonalds value meal.

PS - this running joke between our friends (originally to cheer up a roommate) might be going a little too far....

Hilarious! That was a great episode overall. Everything is better somehow with Christopher Walken in it.

Changing the topic, it is damn hot up here right now. It's funny how Canada often gets stereotyped as a cold country, but we really get all the extreme temperature. Turns out that my local area is actually, on average, 5 degrees (Celsius) hotter in summer than California. A couple of days ago, we hit 42oC (that's 107.6 Farenheit to those of you in the US, Turkey, or Myanmar) and I think we're supposed to reach that again on Sunday. I got back to school at the end of lunch yesterday and there were two police cars, an ambulance, and a fire truck out front because some other student collapsed from heat stroke during gym and had to be rushed to the hospital. We're getting some good thunderstorms, but somehow it's not really cooling anything off. Anybody else stuck in some bad weather right now?

Really? That's good news. Actually, I just checked the weather report again and (with the exception of friday) it's starting to look better than it did last time I checked. Excellent. I just hope it can stay a bit cooler for my exams next week.

I've gotta commend Snake on that piece. Not only because of the pixel-kick-assness of it, but also because he melded two very favorable things. People do a lot of work around here, but I don't think I've seen anyone else's stuff stolen and passed around the 'net as much as that piece. It's just a pity Snake's name seems to have been lost in all this passing around.

Oh, and this little gem was written on Gamefaqs, and I happened across it. It's just my kind of writing. It's his narration and thoughts while playing through the original(well, the remakes) of Pokemon. Pity it's written on a Hello Kitty background... I'm embarrassed to be seen on the site :x

I just spent half an hour reading through that, and have never "Lol'd" so much. Very very fun.

That's some quality writing right there. I don't think that he really needs to write about anything at all to enthrall whomever is reading what he is writing, but the fact that it's about a game as inane as pokemon makes it all the better.

hmm I also throughly enjoyed the pokemon review. A rather funny take on a game,a game which I never noticed revolved around crack whores and rape. Kudos for posting that Dusty, and even more kudos for the author.

finally saw Taxi Driver today.  man, that's a movie that will drive you nuts, if not during the film then later when you try to imagine what's next.

Finally got around to seeing it, eh? I agree, though. I love how De niro's character is such a nobody with no Social attributes at all, but some how gains the status of a hero by adding douses of psychotic behavior and possible terrorist undertones as well. Brilliant movie.
