I didn't see this topic until a few days after i joined, so

Hi, names matthew, my teachers in grade 1 called me matt, with that nickname my brother (13 at that time) made me a username as mattpk, and i have stuck with it. I have used another acc name as Edwining sometimes. That username started when i played the horribly rendered graphics dump runescape game. I have had almost a month of experience spriting, and you may think i haven't gone far for a month of work, by looking at my topics, check out my dob. :(

Thanks Indigo!  ;D I guess I should write a little 'bout myself as all the others :)
I'm 13 years old, and have been pixelling for approx a year. You wouldn't want to see some of my first pixelart, hiding in the depths of my photobucket album. I live in Denmark, and my goal is to become a proffessional illustrator. Right now I'm just looking for some not too hard freelance works :) My name on pixeljoint is Elwin, and on conceptart.org my name's Nighthall :) Well, that was me.

I did a search for pixel art, and after sifting through the sites I already knew, I found this one.

I've been spriting since I was 12, mainly doing stuff for RPG projects. No... Only RPG sprites, until recently.

In the past year I've really been studying art extensively, and I love to pixel. I kind of fell out of the groove of spriting about half a year ago because I lost interest, as learning anatomy and studying composition, color theory, and all that good stuff seemed more important.

After a friend messaged me about doing the pixel art in his game, along with a growing urge to get back into game development, I started to sprite again.

I'm aiming for doing something art related when I'm older, and I'm very serious about improving myself all around. I'm trying to save up $4000 in 16 months to afford a pre-college program at RISD, but I'm too young to get a job so I'm trying to improve enough to be able to do some serious paid work within that time frame.

I'm 15, a freshman in high school, currently residing in Pennsylvania.

I see a lot of familiar faces here, a lot of the people I idolized because of the quality of their work.

Hi!

I believe its a good moment to move to second base.

The Username is Metaru, yet the name is Francisco. some of you might already saw me over PixelJoint a few times, and recently in the last Secret Santa(I'm the lucky bastard who got a present from MashPotato  ;D). I'm from Chile, SouthAmerica.
I have been into arts and stuff since i was born, and after some experiences in diverse artforms that went from Oil Painting to Dancing, I stuck myself with PixelArt. Why? I was born in the grace of the 8bit era, and I grown up in the middle of the 16bit War between the Genesis and the SNES, and these 2D graphics were carved in my head for the rest of my life.

I have been into serious pixeling for almost one year, so I'm still learning a lot of stuff. and that's why I basically came here: to learn - and to drop one or two jokes from time to time-

Hey, I'm Relic.

I'm currently living in Newfoundland, Canada and attending high school.

Honestly, I'm a horrible pixel artist, but lately I've been finding I sometimes need to make my own graphics. I develop on a game called Graal Online and there's not ALWAYS a pixel artist or graphic artist around who can help me (I design levels/maps) so I'm hoping to pick up some experience here so I can help myself in those situations and do some decent work.

I guess that's it.  :P

Well I suppose I really should put my introduction in here after all I did do some CnC on an iso image yesterday...

I'm a total new guy / virgin when it comes to pixel pushing, I'm more of a programmer, which will be seen in my attempts at pixeling stuff.  My current pixeling level is programmer - i.e. nothing looks like anything, it's more of a blob of random colours thrown at the canvas in an effort to attempt to make something that works.  What I'm hoping from this walk into the world of the pixel pushing artists of the world is a higher ability to generate images, both 2D tiles / sprites and 3D texture maps.

Hello all, my name is eXodus.. You can call me eX if you wish.

I have mainly only done some pixel work on Graal Online servers, keeping with that style. I wish to pick up a new style, the 'basic' style that I never got to learn to get where I am now. I love to listen to music, work with graphics, and build games and animations. I'm very capable of learning alot in pixel art, seeing as I can be dedicated at something I like to do, which makes me pick it up easier than most. I have somewhat of a back round in it, to where I should know how to do some amount of work, and not be completely terrible.

Expect to stat to see a good bit of me, and please try to help me as much as you can, I'm willing to try and improve a good deal.

Thanks, thats about all! ;D

I'm 18 and taking an extra year of high school while I improve my marks and try to amass some money for university tuition. I've been pixelling as a hobby for a few years and now I'm going to see if I can make a bit of extra money through freelancing work.

There's my intro.

My name is Edward, and I lurk the crap out of this place. I dig your art guys and gals. =)

I used to post on pixelation.net a long time ago and made a few things here and there - in the end I (wisely) decided I had better stick to programming in life. So I've been doing alot of that lately. Mabey I'll try failing at some sprites again so you can all get a chuckle out of it. ;p

The biggest thing I've noticed about starting to read the forums again is the guys who had just started out the last time I was here, say 1-2+ years ago (I have no sense of time), are now amazing artists and making all this great stuff. I love it, It's awesome to see that kind of progression.

Also: Pixel art is civilization.

Hello, all. My name is Daniel, and I am about as close to a newbie at pixel art as you can get. I'm a Computer Science major about to receive my undergraduate degree, and I'll be doing grad school this fall studying artificial intelligence. I've always had video game development as a hobby, but I've never been able to do my own art. The extent of my experience with pixel art is doing minor pose edits for sprites back when I was using RPG Maker 2000.

Now I'm interested in doing my own art, and not "programmer art". I found RhysD's tutorials online, and I've started to follow them. This is what I've got so far:

Nothing terribly impressive, but it's a start. The cube was the first shape that the tutorial had me draw. Then I moved onto the pyramid and decided to embellish a bit by adding the entrance. I'm not entirely happy with the dithering on the cylinder yet, but this is my first attempt. I plan on concentrating mostly on isometric sprites and tiles.

It's currently finals week for me, so it'll be a week or two before I have time to sit down and really push some pixels, but hopefully, you guys will be hearing back from me before too long. Pleasure to meet you all!

Hey every1, i'm Karl and i'm not an artist of any sort, do not even take it at school. i am however a good friend of a pixel artist who is at these forums and just wish to poke my nose around. although i dont know if i'll ever do any, i certainly enjoy viewing the stuff that other post up here and would perhaps like to provide some critique in "english"   :P
nothing special about me, i just think that maybe suggestions/critiques from a different perspective (a non-artist one) could be helpful.
thx

:ofc as probably most will see, i am a fan of starcraft (and blizzard for that matter) and greatly enjoy the storyline/art for that game too

Would not hurt if i make my introduction here.

My name is Fabian and was born in 1984.
I live in Saxony-Anhalt,Germany and was getting serious into pixeling in ~2002/03.

The fact i growed up in the 8/16 bit generation of videogames is surely a factor in doing pixelart for me.
I also started pixeling after i discovering that people doing this kind of graphics even the 2d era was gone at that point.
I used to know the old pixelation forum (that with the blue colours) but never registerd there cos i was not good enough :'( .

Hi,

Great to have found this pixel-dedicated forum. My name is Metin, I am a former pixel artist for commercial Amiga games, such as Hoi and Clockwiser. I was happily married to the legendary Deluxe Paint (DPaint) in those good ol' days.

I'm also a first-hour beta-tester of the great Pro Motion pixel editor (as you can see in the 'About' if you own it).

I've been into 3D graphics for the past 10 years, but I really started to miss the good old pixel pushing. So with a lot of motivation I'm going to return to my roots.

Here's an impression of my pixel stuff (by the time I write this the image gallery mainly exists of my old game graphics from the early 1990s).

Cheers,

Metin

I'm Miro from Finland, and recently I've been getting into pixel art. I have some background in art, and have studied game design for a few years. I guess that lead me here to this forum.

I'm looking forward to improving my skills and finding out more about pushing them pixels.

Hello, everyone. Mikael, or Pestilence, here greeting you from Sweden. I'm a 15 year old student planning to study IT. I've been fluffing around in Photoshop for a couple of years now, but just recently started with pixel art. As such, I have absolutely nothing of value for these boards yet, but I hope to learn a thing or two here.  :)

Got a good crowd around these forums, so I'll pitch in.

Hello everyone, I'm Justin. I mostly stick to sculpting and drawing but try my hand at pixel art from time to time. I've been alive for almost 20 years and currently reside in the white-bred, picket-fence, rural area of New York. :blind: As such, not much exposure to the art world outside of my computer.

As far as my art style goes, it can be cartoony and abstract but I prefer to practice realism: An example (WARNING: drawn in photoshop with numerous filters randomly applied) http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/3164/sittinguy2ft5.png

Anyway, I'll be giving advice, receiving pointers and bantering pointlessly where necessary. :) Good crew, here!

PS I'm infinitely fascinated with moais. Sadly, my avatar is my BEST example of pixel art thus far. Period.

Hey folks!  My name is Chungel, I'm almost 15 (July), and I am a complete nub to pixel art.  I seriously haven't pixeled a single thing in my life.  After my friend showed me an image made by eBoy, I did a little research and found out it was called pixel art, and that eBoy's art was something called isometric.  Wanting to learn how to make such awesome images, I ended up here, as well as Pixel Joint (same username).

Er... A little about myself: I'm a Minnesotan, I'm a band geek, and... I enjoy watching movies.

Hopefully I'll learn a lot here, and maybe make a few friends too.  :)

EDIT: Just realized I'm member 3666.  Weird.

Hi there! My name's Delia May Fly and I'm from Australia. I'm 18 and have been dabbling in pixel art since '03, though I only really got "into" it in '06. I love traditional art and other forms of digital art, too!

Here I am:
i love your sweater! :3

You look like a 3d render.

LOL with a single point light too...how about a little rim lighting, huh?

Also, don't smoke.

second picture, that is not smoke, that is sugar foam, what's it called, the thing you can buy and eat at fairs which is ridiculously bad for your teeth. That, is stuck on your face.

Also yes, 3d render, starring in the next hitman. What can I say.

I on the other and, am upping the hairy ante.

My name is Noel, I don't really pixel all that much, but am trying to get into it more.

I enjoy making games (my main reason for wanted to get better at pixel art), ski, bike, hang out with friends, whatever. Uhh... I live in Canada.
You can find some of my games on my website:

damn, you look pretty tr00 now! beware, virgin blood metallers!

heheh, now we're like opposites. we should then play in a movie; a couple of badass guys drinking hard liquor, doing chicks and getting involved into barroom fights all the time, you know, a brass knuckles, flying chairs, tables and crap sort of brawling. and we would be harassing, shooting and killing flake-ass cronies with shotguns, or better: taking them down with kung-fu techniques. they'd probably make a cliche trailer with a Ron Perlman-type of preview man voice saying cool things like *in the city. . . you must fight to survive*, or something. and certainly we'd have to drive a sixty-seven black Camaro, or you'd have one of that cool choppers, sleeveless jacket, leather and everything! ;p

edit: oh; hi, Drazzke and have a nice stay here! this place is all about improving your skills and getting into pixel art more so you couldn't find better! ;)

heheh, straight up! seriously, I think I've got one hell of a catchy idea for an avant-garde-cartoon-style piece. . . if you're not copyrighted or something of course! ;)

but now I'm trying to catch up with some 3D rendering techniques of the 2000s. getting myself ready for a demoscene compo (and there's no bare ass in it! not even a woman in it!). :D
