Chimeras
« on: November 07, 2006, 05:32:22 pm »
Hey people,

Today you have been given the power of a god.

Your objective is to come up with a new animal, a hybrid as a result of breeding any existing species that "normally" wouldn't do so ( I'm no one to tell people what to do with their free time).
You are to come up with crazy animals like the "Butterflant", or simply venture into the world of monstrosity, and explore the bizarre results of mixing your best friend with a cow.

- You are free to mix any amount of animals for your creature. You are also free to mix existing humans (provide references if you can) with animals, but have in mind we already have more than enough furries (antropomorphic drawings) on the net, so try to come up with something more bizarre and impacting.
- Try to stay away from the cliché pegasus, or mermaids, and the like.
- Bonus points if we can recognize the "parents" of your creature straight away.

The rules for this activity are:
-16 is the max. color amount you can use, so plan your palette wisely.
-Animation is optional, though you will be given extra love if you do!

So go on and start pushing those pixels!

Anyway, I started one, and I just want to check to make sure everyone considers it to fits the parameters of the challenge before I go any further with it.

Great entries!

Well, mine was supposed to be a mix of a bear and a turtle, but somehow feathers came into the mix as well and it looks like none of those animals.

So basically we are making our own joke animal, kinda like the platypus.  I think I'm going to try a flying turtle squirrel, or some other similar mix.

Great things people, some really top stuff is coming up in these challenges recently.

mrmean, there seems to be a clash of styles in your piece, the shell being shaded in one way and the other areas in another. I quite like the way you've done the moose's head and the limbs, so i think following that up on the shell would look better.

No one else try doing a GECKARD, i've got that one coming.  ^-^

Theres a bit of bird, crab, turtle, pray mantas and human skeleton in this.

I think I might do a cleaner, different version that has more obvious influences. Its a fun activity.

(Figure A.)The Beepo, native to northern Brazil.

That was great fun, I'll probably do another.
Err.. Once I fix a few minor problems I didn't notice till now.

The hipposquirracoon (I think) is very good, but the line between the tail and the rump kinda shatters, and it doesn't look very good.

It doesn't hurt to post things if you need some critique, but you really should finish and then post.

BTW, Schu, I really like yours. I should have mentioned that earlier. It's perfect as a Dragon Warrior monster or something.
