Jumping Jack-o-Lanterns!
« on: October 14, 2006, 02:32:06 am »
Happy Friday the 13th, Pixelation!  It's October, and as every young candy lover knows, at the end of this month lies that wonderful festivity of tooth decay known as Halloween!  Of course, Halloween isn't all about rotting teeth; it's also about scaring young children, drinking hot apple cider, and, of course, making Jack-o-Lanterns.  So what better way to celebrate Halloween here than to make some Jack-o-Lanterns of our own?  Just color one of the templates below (or use your own outline) by Halloween, and this will be the spookiest thread on all of Pixelation.  Extra bonus points for animations.  Happy Pixelling!

see you not his eyes and mouth ? those white circles are his features

the whiteouts are where you're seeing the burning inferno inside  ;D

and did you actually meant to say specular (as in fake relection highlights) or spectacular

yours rocks anyways, somehow the mouth gives me a V for Vendetta feel

you need to define the features of the lantern eq. right now, it just looks like white orbs. They need to have depth of some sort. and the positioning of the features are also poorly thought out. even if they are all fleshed out and made to look like holes, it would look like.....3 random holes. i advise you to take another look at your piece and work it around a little more.

I might do another one with the same base and work from there, as for the 'random' holes. there actually IS some thought in there,
but I guess you'd have to know my minimen to understand where the design is coming from

Was planning to do the same thing with the smaller pumpkin. I'll have to think of something else then. Looking forward to seeing it.

I've actually just started working on a portfolio site for freelancing. It's still a while before it goes public though.
Theres the devantart account (http://imson.deviantart.com/) but there's no pixel art there if that was what you were after.

some seriously cool stuff in here :) I'm enjoying this thread very much...

Lar, For some reason it appears as if the squash happens before he hits the ground,
while in reality it should happen because he hits the ground ...

also, he's thumping man ... i'd rather see it be a relaxed bounce ...

squash and stretch are the keywords for animations like this  :)

see below image this applies to inplace hopping as well

@ Larwick: Well, if you say so.

Had a few minutes, did a little jumping animation with the smaller pumpkin. Tried to to something a *little* bit different so the two jumpers wouldn't be identical:

Wheeee!

For some reason, I love yours Larwick. The way the timing is, it reminds me of those beanbags I used to have at home.

I keep thinking paprika every time I see this. Though, I don't get to see that many variations of pupkins around here.

Great work AlienQuark. Nice clean style.

One suggestion for the trampoline pumpkin, snake, would be to have the light diminish (redden) as the pumpkin is falling, to suggest the candle is rising up and freefalling a bit.. then have a little burst of light as it settles back down...

Good idea. It's going to take a little tweaking to get the right effect though, so I'll try it once I have some extra time. Sadly, you can hardly see it, but the pumpkin is actually changing its glow throughout the whole animation. I'm going to incorporate that bit into something else so It's not a complete waste.

Yeah, I was just bored the other day and made it a man instead of an actual pumpkin. I'm still trying to come up with a cool face for my real pumpkin, and maybe a neat animation to make it do like Larwick and snake, cuz I don't do enough of that jazz.
